What happened to actually singing?

posted Thursday, 27 November 2003
I'm watching Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and it seems that most of the singers... are using vocoders. I don't know why. Pitch correction? That's certainly what it seems like, and it's annoying me.

I hate those things. They're vaguely interesting sometimes, but lately it seems like they're everywhere. As a result, these "singers" and "professionals" seem like they're lipsyncing. What happened to being able to SING? Sheesh -- give me a vocoder and *I* will do just as well as they do, and if you've ever heard m sing, you'll know what a stretch that is.

This is dishonesty, a mockery of performance. I say let's bring out the CD Players and screensavers for performance, leave these human beings out of it - they're the least necessary parts now anyway.
