My brother was in a motorcycle accident.

posted Friday, 14 January 2005
I just found out that my brother was in a serious motorcycle accident a few days ago. He tore up his left ankle and calf, and not much else, from what I understand, which is good news, I guess.

He still might lose his foot.

I don't know all the circumstances. I'm 900 miles away from where most of my family is, so news traveled slowly. I feel almost paralyzed, even though people there say he'll be okay, that he's doing the right things, that they have high hopes.

They said he might lose his foot if things don't heal well.

I don't know how to convert this into a public service announcement, how to make this news somehow useful. He was doing the "right things," like wearing boots and a helmet, as far as I know. Maybe it'd have been worse had he not been. I ruined my own knees and ankles on motorcross bikes when I was young...

I don't really know what to do.

I ride a motorcycle myself, a Buell Lightning....

My thoughts are with your brother and I hope he's doing ok by this point....

Pass on my wishes to your brother (strange thing for a stranger to say, but oh well....it's out there now, do with it what you will!)

I ride, as well. Happily, I've never faced a serious accident as of yet. Like many things in life, it does come with a modicum of danger, and it's always unfortunate when that line is crossed. Glad to hear he wears good gear, and hope that wasn't the issue here. Best wishes.
