JRun Beta Program and what's wrong with it

posted Monday, 1 May 2006
Adobe is running a new beta program for JRun. That's newsworthy, right? So why didn't I publish it on TheServerSide? I wanted to, honest... but I couldn't, not without providing a disservice to the readers.

Adobe published the same story to other sites: Javalobby comes to mind, for example, with this post. Erik's Pulse even picked it up. So why wouldn't it be TSS-worthy?

Pretty simple stuff, really. Look at the post, from Javalobby:

Beta release of next version of JRun appserver code named Cheetah, is available. Adobe JRun Team is inviting serious evaluators to give feedback on this beta release. Contact 'vrreddy at adobe dot com' to be included in the Beta program. We plan to give away JRun licenses for the top 3 finders of quality bugs.
This is quantitatively (and qualitatively) the same post they submitted to TSS, possibly even quoted.

But it doesn't say anything!

It says that there's a new version of JRun in the works... but you have to email someone to say you're interested. No reason in the post to be interested... just email if you are interested. You get to find out what the details are - what obligations you have - after emailing and signing an NDA. This isn't even considering the professional "email me" part.

This is a non-post, basically. I mentioned that to the submitter, saying that I'd be happy to post the news if it actually provided content, but that it'd be irresponsible to my readership (and him, too, honestly) for me to post it as is.
